Miwa has spent many years pursuing portrait sculpture as a means of expression. Although it is described as portrait sculpture, in fact Miwa’s work consists of realistic carvings of not only human subjects, but also animals and plants, insects, and everyday objects. From these painstakingly sculpted works, we get a sense of something universal and essential, something which transcends the subject.
