Michiyo Miwa has continued to create expressions in modern portraits using traditional Japanese techniques; however, due to a loss in sight, she has recently gone from producing wood carvings to producing works in clay. She relies not on her sight, but on the image constructed in her mind through her sense of touch to give them shape, using the traditional hollow dry lacquer technique to produce her art. In this exhibit, Michiyo Miwa returns to her roots to present us with works overflowing with playfulness.

日本古来の技法を用いて現在の肖像表現を続ける三輪途道ですが、視力の低下をきっかけに、最近は木彫から粘土を用いた制作へと変化させています。視覚に頼るのではなく、粘土を触りながら頭の中のイメージを造形化し、やはり古典的な脱活乾漆造で作品化します。本展では三輪途道のルーツに戻ったかのような、遊び心の溢れる新作をご紹介いたします。
