Eisaku Ando gives expression to forms depending on how he strikes his materials. The countless carvings on the tree bark that come about through this process are simultaneously delicate yet forceful; this is a unique characteristic of Ando’s work. Furthermore, the power which is condensed into the center of the wood with each blow also relates to the works’ world view that powerfully reaches out to the cosmos. Some of the pieces Eisaku Ando creates are solemn and serious, while others are humorous, sometimes cute.

安藤榮作は、原木や廃材を手斧を用い、打つことによって形を表していきますが、こうしてできる無数に刻み込まれた繊細で同時に力強い木肌は安藤独特のものです。また打つことによって木の中心へと凝縮されるパワーは、宇宙へと力強く延びていく作品の世界観にもつながっていきます。安藤榮作のつくりだす荘厳でシリアスな作品と、ユーモラスでときに可愛らしい作品は、それぞれ正反対の世界にいるようでいて、実は常に作品に同居する二つの側面だともいえます。
