curator’s vol.1 Shigeru Toya / 戸谷森

We are pleased to announce the first “curator’s vol.1 Shigeru Toya”, which is an exhibition based on the concept of creating an exhibition in collaboration with curators who are involved in curatorial work and are confronted with new expressions on a daily basis. This exhibition is curated by Naotoshi Noda, who is currently working at Setagaya Art Museum and was in charge of “The World of Kenji Ekuan and GK Design Group Soaring High in the Sky”(2013) and “Bruno Munari: The Man Who Made the Useless Machines” (2018) in recent years. Since graduating from Tama Art University’s Graduate School of Painting, Shigeru Toya has been exploring new ways of painting and has been showing his works continuously. He says that he hopes that painting can be a source of hope for us in these days when the future isn’t immediately visible.

学芸に携わり、日々新しい表現と向き合うキュレーターとともに展覧会をつくるコンセプトのもと、第１回目の「戸谷森展」を開催いたします。本展は、現在世田谷美術館に勤務し、近年では「鳳が翔く　榮久庵憲司とGKの世界」(2013年)、「ブルーノ・ムナーリ　役に立たない機械をつくった男」(2018年)などを担当した野田尚稔氏がキュレーション。戸谷森氏(1980-)は、多摩美術大学大学院絵画科を卒業以来、絵画表現を探求し継続的に作品発表してきました。先の見通しづらい昨今にあって、絵画は希望の見えるものでありたい、と話します。

野田尚稔｜NODA Naotoshi：1971年生まれ。世田谷美術館学芸員。サントリー美術館、草月美術館を経て現職。近年は、美術とデザインが重なり合う領域で活動をしている作家に注目し、展覧会を企画・実施してきた。主な展覧会に、「建築がみる夢　石山修武と12の物語」（2008年）、「異色の芸術家兄弟　橋本平八と北園克衛」（2010年）、「鳳が翔く　榮久庵憲司とGKの世界」（2013年）、「ブルーノ・ムナーリ　役に立たない機械をつくった男」（2018年）など。
