With its title playing upon words of “fluffy” and “hide and seek”, Kasahara tackles the state of limbo which countless images are held in upon the internet medium, and attempting to resolve and reorganize this state with the help of “laughing spirits.” Although a limbo is generally translated as Hengoku or a realm between heaven (hell) and Earth in Japanese, Kasahara insists on using this word in his work as the spiritual eternalness or the everlasting realm of all gods, rather than the two-dimensional interpretation of living and dead or the heaven/hell and Earth. Kasahara believes that current internet images in the state of limbo were once connected to something or someone eternal, which then separated by spreading over the internet like wildfire and taking on a life of their own. Kasahara relates this separation as a part of the fragmentation in the human society, and intends to provide treatment to the situation with the help of “laughing spirits.”

本展では、タイトルの「ふわりんぼ / トリートメント」 – 「ふわりんぼ」は”Fluffy Limbo”(ふわふわの不確定状態という意味の造語)と”かくれんぼ”を組み合わせてつくられている – が表すように、インターネット上の無数の画像の中から選び出した風景を”Limbo”に見立て、「笑う霊素」たちによってそれらの断片化を解消し、整えようと試みられています。“Limbo”とは、日本語で辺獄と訳され、一般的には「地獄の周辺部」と解釈されがちですが、笠原はそれよりも「常世」をイメージしていると言います。”Limbo”は天国・地獄という二元論的解釈を還元され作られた「常世」なのではないかと捉えているのです。この”Limbo”に見立てられたインターネット上の風景とは、もともとは何かや誰かに関係した風景だったものがインターネットに掲載されることでそれらから切り離され、ひとり歩きしはじめているものといえます。このことを笠原は「人間社会の『断片化』の一端」と捉え、この断片化を「笑う霊素」たちによってトリートメント（治療、手当）しようとしているのです。
