Just as changes in word order, punctuation, and endings, for example, change the meaning and nuance of a sentence, creating a sense of uneasiness and peculiarity, Shigeru Toya continues his quest for pictorial expression by repeatedly passing over “moments that could have been constructed as ordinary sentences” on the canvas. He hopes to find a “sense” that will bring hope both to society and to himself.

たとえば、語順や句読点の位置、語尾の変化が文の意味やニュアンスを変え、違和感やおかしさを生み出すように、戸谷森は画面上で「普通の文章として成立していたかもしれない瞬間」を何度も通り過ぎ(pass by)ながら、絵画表現の探求を続けています。そして社会的にも自身にとっても希望になるような「感覚」をみつけたいと話します。
