Taking inspiration from Gunma prefecture, where Shinichiro Koromo was born and continues to live, he creates paintings and sculptures of landscapes that explore the layered histories and memories of ancient burial mounds, mountains, local residents, and haniwa figures. These works capture accumulated moments of time discovered through repeated observation, walking, and physical engagement, all expressed with shifting perspectives and a fluid sense of scale.
Remarking that “still lifes and landscapes are much alike” because neither can be captured without observing them from multiple places and angles, this exhibition focuses specifically on haniwa.
