Locations and towns Ai Ito traveled to and her memories and experiences there have been expressed through a single tapestry made using a traditional method of tapestry making using photograph collages that were taken on her travels. While Ito’s works appear to be photographs or paintings from a distance, you can see they are certainly woven using warps and weft when you get close. The Travel Snapshots carry the lightness of a collage. At the same time, various elements like different times, locations, perspectives, and motifs are completed by being woven one by one creating an overwhelming sense of time. As a result, the works start to carry a certain sense of weight due to the Mindfulness produced by the sense of time. Multi-layered expansion of time and space spreads everywhere in front of you making viewers remember their own memories and experiences in addition to the artist’s. It will be a rich experience that viewers will have a hard time looking away from.
