Yoichi Sano Exhibition /

30 March – 24 April, 2017
about

The “radiance” we can only experience to a limited degree through our eyes is projected onto the inside of the camera as various expressions of light. The photographs that record these expressions cause us to feel and to think again about what it means to see, and about the scenes before our eyes.
This exhibition presents photographs that are almost backlit, taken in the early morning in Kamikochi, a place Yoichi Sano has visited often since his student days. Sano says he lets his impulses take control when framing the pictures, and that he feels nature is trying to show its natural form, just as it is. These works were created with the pinhole technique, on the theme of “photographs that provide clues as to how to perceive the world.” We hope you enjoy the exhibition.
